We understand how frightening it can be to be involved in an accident. However, when you know how to respond, it can certainly help ease your mind and keep you safe.

Our service professionals at Cook Chrysler Dodge RAM have tips including everything from who to contact to scheduling your car service.

Practice Safety First

Cars can be repaired, but people cannot. If you do not think you can safely move your vehicle, or it’s inoperable, it’s important to abandon it. You don’t want to stay stranded in the road.

When it’s safe to do so, get off the road and away from traffic. If you can, however, move your vehicle to the side of the road too to help avoid additional collisions.

Alert the Authorities

Not all accidents need to be reported in Maryland. However, if any of these instances occurred, you must alert the authorities.

  • A person involved is injured or killed
  • A drunk driver is involved
  • An unoccupied vehicle or property is damaged (and you can’t locate the owner)
  • A person involved refuses to exchange information with you or flees the scene
  • A tow is required

Exchange Information

Make sure you exchange the following information with any of the other drivers involved.

  • Name, contact information, driver’s license number, and tag number
  • Insurance agent’s name and policy number
  • Vehicle’s year, make, model, and color
