Vehicle maintenance is an easy thing to forget about, and here at Cook Chrysler Dodge RAM, we find that many of our customers aren’t always sure about when and how their automobiles should be serviced.

To help with this, we’ve put together a brief car service FAQ to answer some of the most common questions about vehicle maintenance.

Q: What is preventative maintenance?

A: Preventative maintenance is a type of service that prevents bad things from happening. Rather than waiting for something to break and having your vehicle repaired, preventative maintenance makes sure major components are swapped out before they go bad and cause major headaches.

Q: How frequently should I take my vehicle in for service?

A: Your Dodge, Chrysler, or RAM vehicle has a service schedule that will give you a great sense of when you’ll need to have service tasks completed. It can be a matter of time or miles driven, but your handbook will tell you. Plus, your vehicle will let you know when it’s time to set up an appointment.

Q: What type of service should I schedule before a big road trip?

A: At our Baltimore car dealership, we’ll check your fluids, headlights, hoses and belts, battery, and windshield wipers to make sure everything is working well for your trip. If any of those components need some TLC, we’ll take care of that to make sure your vehicle travels well on the open road.

Q: Do I need service before winter settles in?

A: To help with wet winter driving, we’ll check your tires and windshield wipers, but we’ll also make sure that your battery and oil levels are in good shape. We’ll also check your antifreeze levels and refill your cooling system.
