What to Do When a Dodge Recall is Issued

What is a Recall and Why is it Necessary?
Recalls are issued by either the manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), when a vehicle, equipment, or part has a safety defect or otherwise fails to meet the minimum standards for safety, and now poses a safety risk. Most of the time recalls affect older models, but newer Dodge cars can be subject to recalls as well. Commonly recalled parts include:
- Faulty steering components
- Faulty fuel system
- Accelerator controls that break down
- Windshield wipers that do not operate properly
- Seats and/or seat backs that fail to operate correctly
- Airbags that deploy under conditions in which they should not deploy, or airbags that fail to deploy when necessary
How Will You Know When a Recall has Been Issued?
You’ll mostly likely find out about a recall that affects you by getting a notice in the mail. This notice will include the information you need to know about the recalled part or model, and outline next steps.
If you do not receive a notice in the mail, you can search for active recalls on the manufacturer’s website. By entering in your VIN number, you can see a complete list of recalls if any have been issued. You can also search for active recalls on the NHSTA website searching your VIN number in their system as well.
