What to Do When a Dodge Recall is Issued

Hood of a car popped open.

Dodge vehicles are designed to be safe, efficient, and fun to drive. But unfortunately, sometimes parts and vehicle recalls are issued to protect the safety of drivers and passengers. Recalls are often issued for older models and individual parts, but if a Dodge recall happens to affect you for any reason, Cook Chrysler Dodge RAM is here to help. Our service center can assist with repairing the issue for your particular model and get you back on the road again.

What is a Recall and Why is it Necessary?

Recalls are issued by either the manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), when a vehicle, equipment, or part has a safety defect or otherwise fails to meet the minimum standards for safety, and now poses a safety risk. Most of the time recalls affect older models, but newer Dodge cars can be subject to recalls as well. Commonly recalled parts include:

  • Faulty steering components
  • Faulty fuel system
  • Accelerator controls that break down
  • Windshield wipers that do not operate properly
  • Seats and/or seat backs that fail to operate correctly
  • Airbags that deploy under conditions in which they should not deploy, or airbags that fail to deploy when necessary

How Will You Know When a Recall has Been Issued?

You’ll mostly likely find out about a recall that affects you by getting a notice in the mail. This notice will include the information you need to know about the recalled part or model, and outline next steps.

If you do not receive a notice in the mail, you can search for active recalls on the manufacturer’s website. By entering in your VIN number, you can see a complete list of recalls if any have been issued. You can also search for active recalls on the NHSTA website searching your VIN number in their system as well.

You can also consult Cook Chrysler Dodge RAM for any information we may have about any active Dodge recalls.
